Abstract

Razvojem moderne medicine i farmaceutske industrije, potražnja za lijekovima postaje sve veća. Posljedično, količina onečišćujućih tvari korištenih za pripravu farmaceutika raste u otpadnim vodama. Uzevši u obzir fizikalno-kemijska svojstva aromatskih onečišćivala, od iznimne je važnosti pratiti njihovu koncentraciju u prirodnim vodama, zbog potencijalno toksičnog učinka na ekosustave. Kako bi se spriječilo daljnje onečišćenje prirodnog vodenog medija, društvo poseže za unaprjeđenjem konvencionalnih metoda uklanjanja štetnih tvari iz otpadnih voda. Shodno tome, napredni oksidacijski i srodni procesi pokazali su se perspektivnom metodom razgradnje aromatskih onečišćivala. U ovom radu praćena je razgradnja aromatskih spojeva, fenola i salicilne kiseline, korištenjem peroctene kiseline. Njihovom razgradnjom došlo je do formiranja novih razgradnih produkata, koji su detektirani kromatografskim sustavom HPLC i LC-MS/MS. Rezultati su pokazali da oksidaciji fenola u kraćem vremenu trajanja procesa pogoduju blago lužnati uvjeti, uz konverziju fenola od 24,74% i konverziju salicilne kiseline od 9,35%. Prvobitno detektirane razgradne produkte fenola i salicilne kiseline nije bilo moguće sa sigurnošću potvrditi.

Abstract (english)

With the development of modern medicine and the pharmaceutical industry, the demand for medicines is increasing. Consequently, the amount of pollutants used for the preparation of pharmaceuticals increases in wastewater. Taking into account the physico-chemical properties of aromatic pollutants, it is extremely important to monitor their concentration in natural waters, due to their potentially toxic effect on ecosystems. In order to prevent further pollution of the natural water medium, the company seeks to improve conventional methods of removing harmful substances from waste water. Therefore, advanced oxidation processes have proven to be an effective method for the degradation of aromatic pollutants. In this work, the decomposition of aromatic compounds, phenol and salicylic acid was monitored using peracetic acid. Their decomposition led to the formation of new degradation products, which were detected by the HPLC and LC-MS/MS chromatographic system. The results showed that the oxidation of phenol in a shorter duration of the process is favored by slightly alkaline conditions, with a conversion of phenol of 24.74% and a conversion of salicylic acid of 9.35%. The originally detected degradation products of phenol and salicylic acid could not be confirmed with certainty.
