Abstract

Posljednja dva desetljeća raste interes za upotrebom prirodnih biopolimera koji zamjenjuju široko korištene sintetičke polimere u svrhu smanjenja njihovog negativnog utjecaja na okoliš. Biopolimere karakterizira biokompatibilnost, biodegradacija i netoksičnost, što ih čini ekološki prihvatljivim materijalima. Radi navedenih svojstava, biopolimeri pronalaze svoju ulogu u tkivnom inženjerstvu, sustavima za oslobađanje lijekova, uklanjanju metala iz otpadnih voda, te u raznim industrijama poput prehrambene i kozmetičke industrije. Jedan od najčešće korištenih biopolimera je hitozan, dobiven procesom deacetilacije drugog najrasprostranjenijeg biopolimera, hitina. U ovom radu pripravljenje su prevlake hitozana s različitim udjelom nanočestica n-ZnO (1%, 3% i 5%) iz dviju otopina, otopine 1N octene kiseline i otopine 6%-tne limunske kiseline. Provedena su ispitivanja površinskih karakteristika kompozitnih prevlaka primjenom tehnike kontaknog kuta i proračunom parametara adhezije. Mehanička svojstva određena su rasteznim ispitivanjem kompozitnih prevlaka, a toplinska svojstva primjenom diferencijalne pretražne kalorimetrije, termogravimetrijske analize te ispitivanjem toplinske vodljivosti kompozitnih prevlaka. Barijerna svojstva prevlaka određena su mjerenjem propusnosti vodene pare.

Abstract (english)

In the last two decades, there has been increasing interest in the use of natural biopolymers as substitutes for widely used synthetic polymers in order to reduce their impact on the environment. Biocompatibility, biodegradability, and nontoxicity are the properties of biopolymers that make them environmentally friendly materials. Due to these properties, biopolymers are used in wound healing, drug delivery, metal removal from wastewater, and also in various industries such as food and cosmetics. One of the most commonly used biopolymers is chitosan, which is obtained by deacetylation from the second most abundant biopolymer, chitin. In this work, chitosan coatings with different amounts of ZnO nanoparticles (1%, 3%, and 5%) were prepared from two solutions, a 1N-acetic acid solution and a 6% citric acid solution. The composite coatings were investigated for their surface properties by applying the contact angle technique and calculating the adhesion parameters. In addition, the mechanical properties were analysed by tensile tests and the thermal properties were determined by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis and thermal conductivity. Barrier properties of coatings were determined my measuring water vapor permeability.
