| Abstract | Fotokemija uključuje procese u kojima svjetlost uz fotokatalizatore rezultira sintezom različitih fotokemijskih proizvoda. Posebno su interesantne fotokemijske reakcije u kojima se kao katalizatori koriste kompleksi porfirina s određenim metalima (najčešće porfirin mangana). Korištenjem tih katalizatora pod utjecajem svjetlosti, reaktivna dvostruka veza supstrata puca što rezultira stvaranjem novih produkata fotooksidacije, koji se često karakteriziraju kao epoksidi, alkoholi ili derivati formila. Kako bi se poboljšala učinkovitost fotokemijskih procesa, u današnje vrijeme se konvencionalni šaržni reaktori sve više zamjenjuju protočnim reaktorima. Mikroreaktori su jedan od tipova protočnih reaktora čija je glavna karakteristika mikro-dimenzija (maksimalni promjer kanala do 500 μm). Protočni sustav i mikrodimenzije donose poboljšanja u mnogim segmentima provedbe fotokemijskih reakcija, kao što su učinkovito i brzo miješanje faza, bolji prijenos topline, preciznija kontrola vremena zadržavanja, homogena upotreba zračenja svjetlom u cijeloj reakcijskoj smjesi, sigurnost procesa i potencijalno jednostavnije uvećanje procesa. U ovom istraživanju su kao fotokatalizatori korišteni anionski i kationski mangan(III) porfirini u reakciji s furanom ili tiofenom kao supstratima. Reakcije su prvo provedene u šaržnom reaktoru gdje je potpuna konverzija supstrata postignuta nakon 2 sata za furostilben, odnosno 16 sati za supstrat tienostilbena. Pri tome je uočeno stvaranje epoksidnih ili hidroksilnih derivata kao glavnih proizvoda na reaktivnim dvostrukim vezama prstenova oba supstrata ili na slobodnoj dvostrukoj vezi ostalih manjih proizvoda reakcije fotooksidacije. Korak naprijed u razvoju i intenzifikaciji procesa napravljen je zamjenom šaržnog reaktora s mikroreaktorom. Ukupno su ispitana četiri različita cijevna mikroreaktora te su dobiveni rezultati uspoređeni s rezultatima procesa fotooksidacije provedenog u šaržnom reaktoru. Pokazalo se da su sve reakcije značajno ubrzane korištenjem mikroreaktora gdje je potpuna konverzija furostilbenskog supstrata postignuta za vrijeme zadržavanja od 0,7 min, a tienostilbenskog supstrata za 3,5 min. Kako bi se dobilo više informacija o kinetičkom mehanizmu fotokemijske pretvorbe oba odabrana supstrata, procijenjene su brzine reakcije i za procese provedene u šaržnom reaktoru (11 pokusa) i za pokuse provedene u mikroreaktoru (4 pokusa) te je pokazano da sve istražene reakcije slijede kinetiku prvog reda. Usporedbom konstanti brzina kemijske reakcije pokazano je da je furil derivat reaktivniji od tienila dok su reakcije u kojima je bio prisutan kationski katalizator bile sporije od reakcija provedenih s anionskim katalizatorom. |
| Abstract (english) | Photochemistry refers to processes in which light, in conjunction with photocatalysts, allows the synthesis of diverse photochemical compounds. The use of porphyrin complexes with specific metals as catalysts yields promising results, and manganese porphyrins, which can be cationic or anionic, are the most widely utilized in diverse chemical processes. When these catalysts are exposed to light, the reactive double bond of the substrate cleavages, resulting in the formation of new photooxidation products, which are frequently characterized as epoxides, alcohols, or formyl derivatives. Flow reactors are increasingly being used to replace batch reactors in order to enhance process efficiency. Microreactors are one of the types of flow reactors whose main characteristic is micro-dimension (maximum channel diameter is 500 μm). The flow system and microdimension improve many aspects of photochemical reactions, including efficient and rapid phase mixing, improved heat transfer, more precise retention time control, homogeneous use of light radiation throughout the reaction mixture, process safety, and potentially simple scale-up of processes. In this study, anionic and cationic manganese(III) porphyrins were used as photocatalysts in reactions with furan or thiophene as substrates. The reactions were first carried out in a batch reactor, where complete substrate conversion was achieved after 2 hours for the furostilbene substrate and 16 hours for the thienostilbene substrate. Epoxy or hydroxyl derivatives were formed as the main products on the reactive double bonds of the rings of both substrates or on the free double bond of other minor photooxidation products. By replacing the batch reactor with a microreactor, the process was additionally developed and intensified. Four different tubular microreactors were used, and the results were compared to those obtained in a batch reactor. All processes were found to be significantly accelerated in microreactors, with complete conversion of furostilbene substrate occurring in 0.7 min and thienostilbene substrate occurring in 3.5 min. To gain a better understanding of the kinetic mechanism of photochemical conversion of the two selected substrates, the reaction rates were determined for both, a batch reactor (11 experiments) and a microreactor (4 experiments). The first-order kinetics was estimated for all the reactions studied. The furyl derivative is more reactive than the thienyl, as shown by the reaction rate constants, and the reactions with a cationic catalyst proceed slowly than the reactions with an anionic catalyst. |
