Abstract

Plastika je zbog vrlo dobrih kemijskih i fizikalnih svojstava te isplative cijene doživjela eksponencijalni rast u proizvodnji i primjeni posljednjih 100 godina. No, sve što jednom nastane, neće nestati, stoga sukladno povećanoj proizvodnji nastaju i ogromne količine plastičnog otpada, koji nerijetko završava u okolišu, pogotovo vodenom i to nepravilno zbrinut. Raznim procesima u prirodi, nastaju čestice <5 mm koje se nazivaju mikroplastikom. Toksičan utjecaj tih čestica je dijelom dokazan, ali je veliki dio još uvijek neistražen. U ovome radu provela su se toksikološka ispitivanja utjecaja mikroplastičnih čestica veličina 500-710 μm, 300-500 μm i <300 μm pri koncentracijama od 50 mg/L, 250 mg/L, 500 mg/L, 750 mg/L i 1000 mg/L na inhibiciju rasta mikroalge Scenedesmus sp.. Pratile su se i morfološke promjene. Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju na to da je koncentracija čestica značajni parametar prilikom ispitivanja toksičnosti jer se povećanjem koncentracije jasno uočava i povećana inhibicija rasta. Najveća inhibicija rasta mikroalge Scenedesmus sp., 8,22%, prouzročena je pri najmanjoj veličini čestica, <300 μm, te pri koncentraciji od 750 mg/L. Tijekom pokusa nisu zabilježene značajne morfološke promjene mikroalge.

Abstract (english)

Due to its very good chemical and physical properties, plastics have experienced an exponential growth in cost-effective production and application over the last 100 years. However, everything that appears once will not disappear, so correspondingly increased production also generates huge amounts of plastic waste, which often ends up in the environment, especially water where it is improperly disposed. By various processes in nature, particles <5 mm are formed which are called microplastics. The toxic effects of these particles have been partially proven, but a large part is still unexplored. In this work, toxicological studies of the effects of microplastic particles of size 500-710 μm, 300-500 μm and <300 μm at concentrations of 50 mg/L, 250 mg/L, 500 mg/L, 750 mg/L and 1000 mg/L were performed to inhibit the growth of the microalgae Scenedesmus sp.. Morphological changes were also monitored. The obtained results indicate that the particle concentration is an important parameter when testing for toxicity because by increasing the concentration the growth inhibition also increases. The highest inhibition of microalgae growth of Scenedesmus sp., 8.22%, was produced with the smallest particle size <300 μm, at a concentration of 750 mg/L. No significant morphological changes of the microalgae were observed during the experiment.
