Abstract

U današnje vrijeme konstantan porast emisija industrijskih otpadnih voda predstavlja sve veći problem. Posebno opasnima smatraju se fenolni spojevi, koje većinom sadržavaju otpadne vode nastale na području Mediterana. Jedna od prihvatljivijih obrada otpadnih voda je biološka obrada zbog svoje učinkovitosti te jednostavnosti u primjeni i ekonomskoj isplativosti. Za uklanjanje fenolnih spojeva sve više se koriste kvasci, koji su se pokazali vrlo uspješnima. U ovome radu proveden je proces biorazgradnje fenola Candidom tropicalis 193 u šaržnim uvjetima. U pokusu prilagodbe C. tropicalis 193 početne koncentracije fenola iznosile su 300-600 mg dm-3, a u pokusu uklanjanja fenola 60-220 mg dm-3. Tijekom pokusa određivane su koncentracije biomase i koncentracije fenola. Kvasac C. tropicalis 193 je u svim pokusima pokazao visoku učinkovitost u razgradnji fenola na koncentracije niže od 10 mg dm-3.

Abstract (english)

Constant growth of an industrial wastewater emission represents an increasing problem nowadays. Phenolic compounds, which are mostly contained in wastewaters generated in the Mediterranean area, are especially hazardous. One of acceptable wastewater treatment is biological treatment due to its effectiveness and simplicity in application and economic feasibility. Yeasts are increasingly used in phenolic compounds removal because they have been proven very successful. In this thesis, a process of biodegradation of phenols with Candida tropicalis 193 in batch conditions has been conducted. In the adjustment experiment of C. tropicalis 193, concentrations of phenols 300-600 mg dm-3 were used, and the concentrations of phenols 60-220 mg dm-3 were used in removal of phenols. During the experiments, the biomass and phenol concentrations were determined. In all experiments the yeast C. tropicalis 193 showed a high efficiency in phenol biodegradation with concentrations lower than 10 mg dm-3.
