Abstract

S povećanjem broja stanovništva i klimatskim promjenama raste i potreba za čistom vodom. Imajući to u vidu, potreban je sveobuhvatan i odgovoran pristup prema upravljanju dostupnim vodnim resursima. U tome mogu pomoći napredne tehnike obrade vode u koje spadaju membranske tehnologije. Cilj ovog rada je karakterizacija ultrafiltracijskog membranskog modula ZW-1 i njegova primjena u obradi realnog uzorka komunalne otpadne vode (KOV). Karakterizacija je provedena metodom određivanja MWCO pomoću standardnih otopina polietilen glikola i polietilen oksida s molekulskim masama u rasponu od 20 do 600 kDa. Da bi neku molekulsku masu definirali kao MWCO, koeficijent retencije R morao je biti najmanje 90 % za ispitivani parametar ukupnog ugljika (TC). Početni fluksevi pri kojima su se odvijale analize iznosili su 10, 20 i 40 L m^-2 h^-1. Također, gledao se utjecaj pH otopine (5, 7 i 9) na koeficijent retencije i pad fluksa. Kod obrade realnog uzorka KOV-a analizirali su se parametri pH, mutnoće, provodnosti, kemijske potrošnje kisika i ukupnog, anorganskog i organskog ugljika. Rezultati su pokazali da je MWCO za ispitivani membranski modul približno 300 kDa. Za tu molekulsku masu, jedino je pri fluksu od 10 L m^-2 h^-1 postignuta zadovoljavajuća vrijednost koeficijenta retencije 90 %. S povećanjem početnog fluksa J dolazi do pada koeficijenta R. Također, s povećanjem molekulske mase standardne otopine PEG/PEO dolazi do većeg zadržavanja membrane odnosno povećanja koeficijenta R. Za ispitivane standardne otopine PEG i PEO, bolji rezultati postignuti su s pH 5 i 9 nego pri pH 7. Pri obradi KOV-a došlo je do potpunog smanjenja mutnoće i KPK koja je smanjena preko 70 %. Sadržaj organskih tvari izražen preko TC, IC i DOC pokazao je koeficijent retencije R veći od 0 samo pri najmanjem početnom fluksu od 10 L m^-2 h^-1 gdje je iznosio 10,8 %. pH je ostao u neutralnom području, a provodnost bi blago pala s vrijednosti od oko 870 μS cm^-1 na vrijednosti oko 840 μS cm^-1.

Abstract (english)

With the increase of human population and climate change increases the need for clean water. With that in mind, thorough and responsible approach to water resource management is necessary. Relief can be found in advanced water treatment techniques such as membrane technologies. The aim of this study was characterization of ultrafiltration membrane module ZW-1 and its application in treatment of real municipal wastewater sample. Characterization is completed by determining MWCO with standard solutions of polyethylene glycol and polyethylene oxide with molecular mass ranges from 20 to 600 kDa. To define a particular molecular weight as MWCO, retention coefficient R must be at least 90 % for tested total carbon (TC) parameter. Starting fluxes for the analyses were 10, 20 and 40 L m^-2 h^-1. Also, it was analysed what effect pH (5, 7 and 9) would have on retention coefficient and flux decrease. In municipal wastewater sample parameters of pH, turbidity, conductivity, chemical oxygen demand and total, inorganic and organic carbon were analysed. The results have shown that MWCO for tested module was around 300 kDa. For that particular mass, only flux of 10 L m^-2 h^-1 has achieved satisfactorily value of retention coefficient 90 %. With the increase of starting flux J coefficient R decreases. Also, with increase of molecular mass in standard solution of PEG/PEO there is higher membrane retention shown by increase in coefficient R. For tested standard solutions of PEG and PEO, better results were achieved with pH 5 and 9 than with pH 7. In the municipal wastewater sample treatment there was complete removal of turbidity while chemical oxygen demand decreased over 70 %. Organic compound content presented through TC, IC and DOC has shown retention coefficient R higher than 0 only with lowest starting flux of 10 L m^-2 h^-1 where it measured 10,8 %. pH has maintained in neutral range, while conductivity declined from values around 870 μS cm^-1 to values around 840 μS cm^-1.
