Abstract

Električne karakteristike poroznih ugljikovih elektroda koje se koriste u superkondenzatorima simulirane su korištenjem transmisijskih linija kao stepeničaste kombinacije otpornika i kapaciteta. Ispitan je utjecaj fizikalno-kemijskih parametara elektroda kao što su gustoća, dubina i širina pora na impedancijski spektar u širokom rasponu frekvencija. Testiran je i utjecaj neidealnosti kapacitivnog elementa na oblik impedancijskog odziva te koliko jednostavniji električni krugovi vjerno opisuju karakteristike poroznih elektroda. Snimljeni su i impedancijski spektri dva komercijalna superkondenzatora, nominalnog kapaciteta 6 F, ali različitih nominalnih napona, 2,7 i 3 V, kojima su se, matematičkim usklađivanjem pomoću nelinearne metode najmanjih kvadrata u programskom paketu EC-Lab, odredili parametri ekvivalentnog električnog kruga transmisijske linije. Dobiveni rezultati pokazali su da se potpuno kapacitivno ponašanje poroznih elektroda može registrirati tek u nižem području frekvencija dok se pri višim frekvencijama na Nyquistovom grafu vidi Warburgov nagib (45°), karakterističan za porozne elektrode. Iz grafa ovisnosti kapaciteta o frekvenciji, primjećuje se da kapacitet naglo opada kod viših frekvencija. Kod testiranih superkondenzatora vrijednosti otpora elektrolita (R1) približno su jednake za sve slučajeve što upućuje na isti elektrolit. Povećanjem debljine elektrode, gustoće pora elektrode ili promjera pora elektrode povećava i ukupna unutarnja površina zidova pora što je u proporcionalnom odnosu sa kapacitetom elektrode. Nominalnom kapacitetu od 6 F oba se kondenzatora približavaju tek pri narinutom naponu od 2,7 V dok su vrijednosti pri 0 V puno niže. U oba slučaja niži kapacitet ima superkondenzator nominalnog napona 3 V zbog razlike u debljini elektroda, superkondenzator nominalnog napona od 3 V ima manju dubinu pora te zbog toga ima manju ukupnu površinu unutarnjih zidova pora i manji kapacitet.

Abstract (english)

The electrical characteristics of porous carbon electrodes used in supercapacitors have been simulated by using transmission lines as ladder-type combinations of resistors and capacitors. The effect of physico-chemical parameters of the electrodes such as pore density, depth and width on the impedance spectra in a wide range of frequencies was tested. Also, the effects of non-ideality of the capacitive element on the shape of the impedance response and the measure in which simple electrical circuits describe the characteristics of porous electrodes were tested. The impedance spectra of two commercial capacitors with a nominal capacity of 6 F and nominal voltages of 2.7 and 3 V were recorded. By fitting procedure using the nonlinear least square method the parameters of the equivalent circuit transmission lines were determined. The results show that a completely capacitive behavior of the porous electrodes can be registered only at lower frequency ranges, while the Nyquist diagram for higher frequencies shows the Warburg slope (45°) that is characteristic for porous electrodes. From the dependence of capacity vs frequency we can see that the capacity decreases considerably at higher frequencies. The resistance of the electrolyte (R1) in the tested supercapacitors shows constant values for all cases which indicates that the electrolyte used is the same. Increasing the electrode thickness, pore density or pore diameter also increases the total surface area of the pores which has a proportional relation with the electrode capacity. Both capacitors approach the nominal capacity of 6 F only near the voltage of 2.7 V, while the values at 0 V are much lower. In both cases the supercapacitor with the nominal voltage of 3 V shows lower capacity due to the difference in electrode thickness. Its pore depth is lower which leads to lower pore surface area and a lower capacity.
