Abstract

U novije vrijeme svjedočimo sve nezdravijem načinu života, što je dovelo do ekspanzije farmaceutske industrije. Osim toga, populacija ljudi na Zemlji je u procesu eksponencijalnog rasta te se susrećemo sa izazovom prehranjivanja velikog broja ljudi. Za to su neizbježni pesticidi, koji zajedno s farmaceuticima čine skupinu „novih zagađivala“, točnije toksičnih supstanci koje se nedvojbeno nalaze u vodenom okolišu. Njihovo uklanjanje je nužno iz više razloga, a konvencionalne metode su se pokazale neučinkovitima. Kako bismo bolje razumjeli problem i pronašli učinkovitu metodu eliminacije ovih spojeva u prirodi, prvi korak je upravo analiza otpadnih voda. U ovom radu je mjerena toksičnost uzoraka otpadnih voda u Čakovcu pomoću luminiscirajućih bakterija Vibrio fischeri koje su osjetljive na organska onečišćenja. Rezultati su pokazali da većina uzoraka nije toksična. Cilj je, međutim, potpuno ukloniti bilo kakve toksine iz prirode.

Abstract (english)

In recent time we witness people leading very unhealthy lifestyles, which led to an expansion of pharmaceutical industry. Besides that, the world population faces an exponential growth and consequently we face the challenge of feeding a great number of people. Pesticides are unavoidable in the food industry and they are, along with pharmaceuticals, reffered to as the „emerging contaminants“. To be more exact, they are toxins that are undobtedly present in the aquatic environment. Their removal is necessary for several reasons, but conventional methods have proved to be ineffective. First step in understanding this problem and finding a solution in wastewater treatment is analysis of municipal wastewaters. The aim of this paper was to measure and determine the toxicity of samples of municipal wastewaters in the city of Čakovec using the luminescent bacteria Vibrio fischeri that are sensitive to organic pollutants. The results have shown that most of the samples are not toxic. The goal is, however, to completely eliminate any toxins from the environment.
