Abstract

Plastika je danas široko rasprostranjena u okolišu, a zbog njene spore razgradnje sve veća prisutnost plastičnih onečišćujućih tvari uzrokuje veliku zabrinutost. Utjecajem vanjskih čimbenika kao što su: vodene struje, vjetar, ultraljubičasto zračenje i dr. dolazi do usitnjavanja plastike na manje segmente. Mikroplastikom se nazivaju čestice plastike promjera 1 μm-5 mm, a nanoplastikom čestice promjera manjeg od 1 μm. Vrlo visoke koncentracije mikro i nanoplastike detektirane su u vodenim medijima: oceanima, rijekama i jezerima - posebice visoko industrijaliziranim područjima. Općenito, plastika se u okolišu akumulira i zadržava dugi niz godina, a zbog svoje male veličine, mikro i nanoplastika u okolišu mogu štetno utjecati na ljudsko zdravlje - životinje ih često zamijene svojom hranom čime završavaju u njihovom organizmu, a posljedično time i u ljudskom. Unos ingestijom može se štetno odraziti na rast, reprodukciju i endokrini sustav. Uz to, nanoplastika, koja je još manje veličine od mikroplastike, ima veću sposobnost da prodire kroz biološke površine od mikroplastike i ima još toksičniji učinak na ljudsko zdravlje. Čak je i broj objavljenih radova na temu mikroplastike eksponencijalno narastao od 1970. pa do sada, a uočen je i porast broja istraživanja na temu adsorpcije na mikroplastiku. Efekt adsorpcije nanoplastike također je vrlo bitan, budući da je otkriveno da ona može na svojoj površini nakupljati razne tvari te tako, kao i mikroplastika, služiti kao vektor za prijenos raznih štetnih onečišćujućih tvari.

Abstract (english)

Plastic is widespread in the environment today, and due to its slow decomposition the growing number of plastic pollutants is causing great concern. Due to the influence of external factors such as: water currents, wind, ultraviolet radiation, etc., plastic is shredded into smaller segments. Plastic particles with a diameter 1 μm-5 mm are called microplastics, and particles with a diameter <1 μm are called nanoplastics. Very high concentration of micro and nanoplastic have been detected in water medium: oceans, rivers and lakes - especially in highly industrialised areas. In general, plastic accumulates in the environment for many years, and because of its size, micro and nanoplastic in the environment can have a harmul effect on human health. Animals often replace them with their food, which ends up in their organism, and consequently in the human body as well. Ingestion input can badly reflect on growth, reproduction and endocrine system. On the other hand, nanoplastics, which are even smaller in size than microplastic, have a greather ability to penetrate biological surfaces and can have an more toxic effect on human health. Even the number of publications dealing with the topic of microplastic has grown exponentially since 1970 until now, and an increase in the number of research on the topic of adsorption on microplastics has been noticed as well. The adsorption effect of nanoplastic is also very important considering the discovery that nanoplastic can accumulate various supstances on its surfaces and thus, like microplastics, serve as a vector for the transfer of varius harmful pollutants.
