Abstract

Bisfenol A je supstanca koja se naveliko proizvodi i ima široku upotrebu. Bisfenol A se prvenstveno koristi u proizvodnji polikarbonatne plastike i epoksidnih smola, međutim koristi se i prilikom proizvodnje termalnog papira te se može naći čak i u zubarskim brtvilima. Više istraživanja utvrdilo je štetne učinke bisfenola A, kako za životinje tako i za ljude, uključujući rak, neplodnost, dijabetes i pretilost. Iako se smatra kako je izloženosti ljudi ovoj opasnoj supstanci najčešće posljedica unosa kontaminirane hrane, 2015. godine, Europska agencija za sigurnost hrane zaključila je kako prisutnost bisfenola A u hrani ne predstavlja rizik za ljudsko zdravlje. U ovom radu predstavljena su osnovna obilježja bisfenola A te njegov biološki utjecaj. Također, predstavljeni su izvori bisfenola A, neke od metoda kojima ga je moguće analizirati te metode kojima se može ukloniti iz okoliša. S obzirom na relativno veću količinu bisfenola A u vodenom mediju te nedovoljan broj istraživanja povezanih s prisutnošću bisfenola A u zraku i tlu, u ovom radu obrađene su samo metode uklanjanja bisfenola A iz vodenog medija.

Abstract (english)

Bisphenol A is a widely produced and a widely-used substance. Bisphenol A is primarily used in production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Further, bisphenol A is used in production of thermal paper and can be found even in dental sealants. Multiple studies have shown adverse effects of bisphenol A on animals and humans. This included cancer, infertility, diabetes, obesity, etc. European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) provided an interesting statement in 2015. EFSA concluded that bisphenol A in food does not pose a health risk, even though food intake is considered to be the largest source of bisphenol A in human body. This bachelor’s thesis presents the basic characteristics of bisphenol A and an impact that this substance possible has on living beings. Furthermore, sources of bisphenol A in the environment, the applied analytical methods and the methods for removal of bisphenol A from the environment are discussed as well. The studies dealing with bisphenol A in air or soil are rare. However, it is known that amount of bisphenol A in aquatic environment is generally higher than the amounts in air or soil. Accordingly, only methods of removing bisphenol A from aqueous media are discussed in this thesis.
