Abstract

Na povijesnim ostacima metalnih predmeta stvara se, pod dugotrajnim utjecajem okolišnih faktora, sloj korozijskih produkata odnosno patina, međutim, ona nije jednakog izgleda, debljine i sastava po cijeloj površini uzorka zbog njegove različite izloženosti agresivnoj okolini. Cilj ovog rada je analizirati dva arheološka brončana uzorka. Proučavana je morfologija i sastav dobivenih uzoraka kako bi se utvrdilo u kojoj je mjeri, zbog utjecaja korozivnosti tla, došlo do transformacije brončanog materijala u korozijske produkte odnosno patinu. Tijekom analize površine korišten je optički mikroskop kojim se dobio uvid u izgled ispitivane površine uzorka te se njime vizualno potvrdila heterogenost površine. Pretražna elektronska mikroskopija u kombinaciji s EDX analizom je omogućila bolji uvid u mikrostrukturu i sastav dobivenih materijala. Za karakterizaciju površine korištena je Fourier transformacijska infracrvena spektroskopija te ciklička voltametrija pomoću kojih su identificirani različiti spojevi na površini artefakata.

Abstract (english)

A layer of corrosion products or patina is formed on historical remains under the long-term influence of environmental factors, but it is not of the same appearance, thickness, and composition over the entire surface of the sample due to its different exposure to aggressive environment. This work aims to analyze two archaeological bronze specimens. The morphology and composition of the obtained samples were studied to determine the extent to which, due to the influence of soil corrosivity, the transformation of bronze material into corrosion products or patina occurred. For surface analysis, an optical microscope was used in order to get insight into the appearance of the examined surface. For both samples, significant heterogeneity of the surface was observed. Scanning electron microscopy in combination with EDX analysis provided a better insight into the microstructure and composition of the obtained materials. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry were used to characterize the surface to identify various compounds on the artifacts' surface.
