Utjecaj alkohola na razgradnju antiparazitika u otpadnim vodama

Abstract

S obzirom na sve učestaliju uporabu farmaceutika, njihova prisutnost u okolišu, premda još uvijek u vrlo niskim koncentracijama, počela je stvarati veliku zabrinutost. Iako na prvu pomisao čovjeku vrlo korisna i bezopasna, dezinfekcijska sredstva počinju se također smatrati jednim od potencijalnih onečišćivala, čiji osnovni sastojci, alkoholi, postaju sveprisutni u okolišu te se kao nužno nameće istražiti potencijalne opasnosti koje uzrokuje njihova povećana primjena. Ne treba zanemariti ni mikroplastiku koja je već uvelike pokazala štetan utjecaj na biljni i životinjski svijet brojnih kopnenih i morskih staništa. Simulirajući okolišne uvjete, u eksperimentalnom dijelu ovog rada, tijekom ukupno 5 sati, ispitao se utjecaj dvaju dezinfekcijskih sredstava te ultračiste vode na fotolitičku razgradnju antiparazitika. Dodatna ispitivanja provedena su i za uzorke s mikroplastikom s ciljem ispitivanja njihove razgradnje te nastajanja mogućih transformacijskih i/ili razgradnih produkata za što je, kao ključna tehnika, korištena tekućinska kromatografija visoke djelotvornosti (HPLC). Rezultati analize pokazali su da se antiparazitici albendazol i mebendazol uspješno razgrađuju u sve tri radne otopine, no veća razgradnja ipak je zabilježena u dezinfekcijskim sredstvima. Febantel je nakon provedene analize pokazao netipično ponašanje što se može pripisati kvaliteti samih uzoraka korištenih za analizu. Za svaki od farmaceutika detektirani su mogući razgradni, odnosno transformacijski produkti, a prisutnost mikroplastike nije pokazala znatne razlike u odnosu na uzorke u kojima nije sadržana.

Abstract (english)

Given the increasing use of pharmaceuticals, their presence in the environment, although still in very low concentrations, has begun to create great concern. Although at first glance very useful and harmless, disinfectants are also beginning to be considered one of the potential contaminants, whose basic ingredients alcohol becomes ubiquitous in the environment and it is necessary to investigate the potential dangers caused by their increased use. Not to be overlooked is microplastics, which have already largely shown a detrimental impact on the flora and fauna of numerous terrestrial and marine habitats. Simulating environmental conditions, in the experimental part of this paper, during a total of 5 hours, the influence of two disinfectants and ultrapure water on the photolytic degradation of antiparasitics was examined. Additional tests were performed for microplastic samples to test their degradation and possible transformation and degradation products for which, as a key technique, was used high-performance liquid chromatography. The results of the analysis showed that the antiparasitics albendazole and mebendazole were successfully degraded in all three working solutions, but greater degradation was still observed in disinfectants. After the analysis, febantel showed atypical behavior which can be attributed to the quality of the samples used for the analysis. Possible degradation or transformation products were detected for each of the pharmaceuticals, and the presence of microplastics did not show significant differences compared to the samples without its presence.
