Abstract

Poli(3,4-etilendioksitiofen) (PEDOT) jedan je od najznačajnijih predstavnika posebne skupine polimernih materijala, elektrovodljivih polimera, koji zbog svojih jedinstvenih karakteristika poput električne vodljivosti, stabilnosti i biokompatibilnosti pronalazi primjenu u različitim područjima, uključujući pohranu i pretvorbu energije, bioelektroniku te primjenu u senzibilnim i elektrokemijskim uređajima. Međutim, veliki nedostatak većine elektrovodljivih polimera, a time i PEDOT-a, su lošija mehanička svojstva i lomljivost što im uvelike ograničava primjenu. Priprava kopolimera na bazi PEDOT-a nudi potencijalno riješenje problema lošijih mehaničkih svojstava, a omogućava i krojenje novog svojstva samozacjeljivosti koje otvara vrata novoj primjeni ove vrste polimera u nosivoj elektronici. Kako bi se poboljšala fleksibilnost vodljivog PEDOT polimera u radu je sintetiziran graft kopolimer cijepljenjem bočnih grana akrilat-uretana (AU) na osnovni PEDOT lanac radikalskom polimerizacijom prijenosom atoma (ATRP). Sinteza se provodila u četiri koraka te su dobiveni konačni produkti PEDOT-g-PAU s tri različita udjela AU u sastavu graft kopolimera. Uspješnost sinteze dobivenih produkata ispitana je infracrvenom spektroskopijom s Fourierovom transformacijom (FTIR), nuklearnom magnetskom rezonancijom (NMR) te kromatografijom na poroznom gelu (GPC). Toplinska svojstva i stabilnost polimera ispitana je termogravimetrijskom analizom (TGA) i deferencijalnom pretražnom kalorimetrijom (DSC), dok su elektrokemijska svojstva ispitana metodom sonde s četiri točke (4PP) te cikličkom voltametrijom (CV), a provedena su i mehanička ispitivanja kako bi se odredila istezljivost dobivenog produkta. Rezultati FTIR, NMR i GPC analize dokazali su uspješnu sintezu željenih produkata. Rezultati TGA dokazali su dobru toplinsku stabilnost uzorka, dok je DSC analiza pokazala pojavu staklišta cijepljenjem AU bočnih grana. Dobiveni graft kopolimer pokazuje svojstvo istezljivosti, ali nisku vodljivost koju je moguće povećati provođenjem procesa dopiranja.

Abstract (english)

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) is one of the most significant representatives of a special group of polymer materials, called electrically conductive polymers. Due to its unique characteristics such as electrical conductivity, stability and biocompatibility PEDOT finds its application in various fields, including energy storage and conversion, bioelectronics and sensitive electrochemical devices. However, a major disadvantage of most conductive polymers, and thus PEDOT, is their poorer mechanical properties and brittleness, which greatly limits their application. The preparation of copolymers based on PEDOT offers a potential solution to this problem, and also enables the tailoring of a new self-healing property that opens the door to a new application of this type of polymer in wearable electronics. In order to improve flexibility of PEDOT polymer, a graft copolymer was synthesized by grafting the side chains of acrylate urethane (AU) onto the PEDOT chain by atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The synthesis was performed in four steps and the final PEDOT-g-PAU products with three different AU ratios were obtained. The obtained products were examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The thermal properties and stability of the polymer were tested by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), while the electrochemical properties were tested by four point probe (4PP) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Mechanical tests were also performed to determine stretchability of the obtained copolymer. The results of FTIR, NMR and GPC analysis proved the successful synthesis of the desired products. The TGA results proved good thermal stability of the samples, while DSC analysis showed glass transition temperature by grafting AU side chains onto the PEDOT chain. The obtained graft copolymer shows great strechability, but low conductivity which can be increased by doping process.
