Abstract

Upotreba nerazgradljivih polimera kao ambalažnog materijala smatra se jednim od najvećih ekoloških problema današnjice. Nastaju sve veći problemi s odlaganjem i zbrinjavanjem polimernog otpada zbog čega dolazi do uništenja okoliša te biljnog i životinjskog svijeta. Linearni polietilen niske gustoće (LLDPE) jedan je od predstavnika sintetskog ambalažnog materijala te se najčešće koristi kao ambalaža za pakiranje hrane ili u obliku vrećica.
Cilj ovoga rada bio je pripremiti biokompozite na osnovi linearnog polietilena niske gustoće (LLDPE) i rižinih ljuskica (RLJ) kako bi se dobili biokompoziti pogodani za primjenu kao ambalažni materijali i ispitati njihovu biorazgradnju tijekom 30 dana. Pripremljeni su čisti LLDPE te biokompoziti LLDPE/RLJ s udjelom rižinih ljuskica od 10 i 50 mas. % pomoću laboratorijske Brabender gnjetilice te se ispitala njihova biorazgradnja na četiri soja mikroorganizama (Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Penicillium chrysogenum i Aspergillus niger) na različitim hranjivim podlogama (bakterije na hranjivom bujonu i hranjivom agaru, odnosno plijesni na Čapek bujonu i Čapek agaru). Dobiveni rezultati su pokazali naznake biorazgradnje jedino kod kompozita s 50 mas.% rižinih ljuskica, dok je za ispitivanje biorazgradljivosti čistog polimera i kompozita LLDPE/RLJ s 10 mas.% rižinih ljuskica potreban duži vremenski period inkubacije.

Abstract (english)

The use of nondegradable polymers as a packaging material is considered to be one of the biggest current environmental issues. The growing problem of polymer waste disposal and management cause damage to plants and animals and the overall environment. Linear
low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) is a synthetic polymer most commonly used in food packaging or plastic bag production. The aim of this study is to prepare a composite of linear
low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and rice husk (RH) to obtain biocomposites suitable for use as packaging material and to examine their biodegradation over 30 days. The neat LLDPE and LLDPE/RH biocomposites with rice husk content of 10 wt% and 50 wt% were prepared by using the laboratory Brabender mixer. Their biodegradation was examined on four strains of microorganisms (Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Penicillium chrysogenum i Aspergillus niger) on various growth media (bacteria in nutrient broth and nutrient agar, moulds in Capek broth and Capek agar). The results indicated biodegradation of LLDPE/RH biocomposite with 50 wt% only, while longer incubation period is required to examine the biodegradability of the neat LLDPE and LLDPE/RH biocomposites with 10 wt%.
