Abstract

Nagli porast životnog standarda i napredak društva i civilizacije, uz suočavanje sa zahtjevnim životnim tempom, popraćeno je povećanjem stopa različitih ozljeda i bolesti. Ugradnja nadomjestaka (implantata) prepoznata je kao jedna od najučinkovitijih strategija, kako u općoj medicini tako i u dentalnoj medicini, za održavanje kvalitete života pojedinca i produženje životnog vijeka. Tijekom godina multidisciplinarnih istraživanja u području znanosti materijala, kvaliteta implantata je sve više napredovala: od prvih implantata od kamena ili bjelokosti, preko implantata od zlata u 16. stoljeću do iridija, tantala i raznih legura koje su se pojavile početkom 20. stoljeća. Tako su danas prisutni metalni implantati modificiranih površina koji osiguravaju vrlo zadovoljavajuću potrebnu osnovnu funkciju implantata uz dobar estetski dojam. Također, pokazuju odlična fizikalna i mehanička svojstva te postižu brzu i kvalitetnu oseointegraciju. U ovom radu biti će opisani metalni implantni materijali s primjenom u ortodonciji i metode ispitivanja njihovih svojstava. Budući dentalna implantološka terapija prvenstveno uključuje stvaranje izravnog kontakta s živim tkivom/kosti čeljusti, važne su karakteristike površine implantata. Po ugradnji može doći do biokorozije, procesa opuštanja iona s površine metalnih implantata. Ti ioni mogu se apsorbirati u krv preko sluznice ili pak gutanjem sline što može dovesti do neželjenih posljedica kao što su alergijske reakcije i/ili upalni procesi. Uzrok najvećem broju pogrešaka u stomatologiji je pogrešan izbor materijala. Shodno tome, vrlo je važno provoditi testiranje implantnih materijala u uvjetima koji će simulirati uvjete usne šupljine. Svrha ovog rada je upoznati djelovanje interakcija površine metalnih implantata s okolnim fiziološkim okruženjem. Isto tako, cilj je istražiti prednosti i nedostatke implantnih materijala koji se koriste u ortodonciji.

Abstract (english)

With a sudden increase of life standard and upon the society’s and civilization progress, people are faced with a demanding life pace which is accompanied by an increasing number of different traumas and diseases. The implantation is recognized to be one of the most effective strategies, in both general and dental medicine, for maintaining the quality of life and prolonging life expectancy. Due to multidisciplinary research in the field of materials science, quality of implants has thrived: from first implants being stone or ivory made, gold implants in the 16th century to iridium, tantalum and different alloys which appeared in the beginning of the 20th century. Today the metal implants with modified surfaces are being used ensuring an aesthetical impression in addition to full functionality. Also, they possess outstanding physical and mechanical properties and exhibit fast and excellent osseointegration. In this work metal implant materials used in orthodontics have been described as well as methods for testing their properties. Since dental implant therapy requires putting a foreign object directly into contact with live tissue/jaw bones, characteristics of the implant surface are very important. After implantation, biocorrosion can occur resulting in the ion release from the metal surface. These ions can be absorbed into blood through the mucous membrane or by saliva swallowing which can lead to unwanted consequences such as allergic reactions and/or inflammation. The cause of the highest number of mistakes and implant rejection in dental medicine is the false material choice. Accordingly, it’s very important to perform research of implant materials in conditions which will simulate oral cavity conditions. The aim of this work is to introduce the interaction of metal implants with their physiological surroundings and also to explore advantages and disadvantages of implant materials used in orthodontics.
