Abstract

Kompoziti polietilena i željezovih oksida polimerni su materijali koji su slabije istraživani u odnosu na druge kompozite s polietilenskom matricom. U ovom radu pripremljeni su kompoziti polietilena niske gustoće s akaganeitom te kompoziti polietilena s hematitom u različitim udjelima. Na dobivenim su kompozitima provedena ispitivanja različitih svojstava kako bi se na temelju rezultata mogla odrediti moguća potencijalna primjena pripremljenih kompozita. Akaganeit je sintetiziran iz željezovog (III) klorida i natrijevog hidroksida, a hematit je dobiven žarenjem akaganeita. Rendgenskom difrakcijskom analizom željezovih oksida potvrđeno je kako je riječ o akaganeitu i hematitu. Kompoziti LDPE/akaganeit i LDPE/hematit pripremljeni su u Brabender gnjetilici te su potom isprešani u folije. Dobivene folije karakterizirane su FTIR spektroskopijom, UV/Vis spektroskopijom, termogravimetrijskom analizom te su provedena ispitivanja njihovih barijernih svojstva. Prema dobivenim rezultatima, vidljivo je kako se dodatkom željezovih oksida poboljšavaju sva svojstva u odnosu na čisti polietilen niske gustoće.

Abstract (english)

Polyethylene and iron oxide composites are polymer materials that are less researched compared to other composites with polyethylene matrix. In this experiment LDPE/akaganeite composites and LDPE/hematite composites with different content of iron oxides were prepared. Different properties were determined for the prepared composites to reveal their potential use. The akaganeite was synthesized from iron (III) chloride and sodium hydroxide, and the hematite was obtained by akaganeite heating. X-ray diffraction analysis has been used to confirm the existence of akaganeite and hematite. LDPE/akaganeite and LDPE/hematite composites were prepared in Brabender mixer followed by pressing in foils. Foils were then analysed with FTIR spectroscopy, UV/Vis spectroscopy, TGA and Herfeld’s method (determination of barrier properties to water vapour). The results show that adding iron oxides in polyethylene matrix resulted in increased performance and better properties compared to pure low density polyethylene.
