Abstract

Destilacija je proces za separaciju kapljevitih smjesa na produkte na temelju razlika u vrelištu pojedinih komponenata. Ova energetski intenzivna separacijska tehnika je među najčešće korištenima u procesnoj industriji te je jedan od glavnih potrošača energije. Radi toga, i najmanje uštede u potrošnji energije predstavljaju značajno smanjenje pogonskih troškova postrojenja. Jedan od načina povećanja energetske djelotvornosti procesa destilacije je korištenje toplinski povezanih destilacijskih nizova, a jedan od njih je tzv. Kaibelova kolona. U suštini, Kaibelova kolona sastoji se od tri binarne destilacijske kolone za separaciju pojne smjese na četiri proizvoda, izvedene unutar jednog plašta. S obzirom da su kolone međusobno povezane toplinskim vezama, dovoljan je jedan kondenzator i jedan isparivač za provođenje separacije. Ovakva konfiguracija može ostvariti znatne energetske uštede u odnosu na nizove konvencionalnih binarnih destilacijskih kolona. Cilj ovog rada je simuliranje takve kolone za separaciju smjese aromatskih ugljikovodika te potom optimizacija i dimenzioniranje čime bi se dokazale navedene energetske uštede te prikazale financijske uštede koje ovakvi sustavi mogu ostvariti.

Abstract (english)

Distillation is a process used for separating liquid mixtures based on differences in boiling points of each component. This intensive separation technique is among the most used ones in modern process industry and one of the most energy consuming industrial processes. Due to that even the slightest energy savings can mean a significant reduction in operating costs for the plant. One of the ways of improving energy efficiency is using thermally coupled distillation columns one of which is the so called Kaibel column. Basically the Kaibel column represents three binary distillation columns for separating a mixture into four products, installed into just one shell. Since the columns are fully thermally coupled only one reboiler and one condenser is needed to perform the separation. This kind of column configuration brings significant energy savings in comparison to a conventional distilation column arrangement. The aim of this work is to simulate such a column for separating an aromatics mixture and afterwards optimising and sizing of the equipment in order to prove the potential enery savings and financial benefits such systems can achieve.
