Abstract

Ogromne količine plastike i mikroplastike se svakodnevno proizvedu diljem svijeta te je količina mikroplastike u okolišu u konstantom porastu. Kada se ona nađe u vodenom okolišu organizmi je često znaju zamijeniti s hranom ili je slučajno progutati i tako se ona akumulira preko hranidbenog lanca te u konačnici dolazi do ljudi ingestijom morskih plodova i riba. Dodatan problem predstavljaju onečišćujuće tvari, poput farmaceutika i pesticida, koje se mogu adsorbirati na sitne čestice mikroplastike i tako se prenositi kroz čitav ekosustav. Kada mikroplastika s adsorbiranim tvarima završi u organizmu, adsorbirane tvari se tamo mogu desorbirati i dalje prouzrokovati štetu po organizmu. Brojna istraživanja pokazuju da takav kombinirani učinak adsorbiranih tvari i mikroplastike može predstavljati velik rizik na cjelokupne sustave. U ovom radu dati će se literaturni pregled dosadašnjih istraživanja vezanih uz adsorpciju ksenobiotika na mikroplastiku te utjecaj različitih parametara poput veličine i vrste mikroplastike, temperature, pH-vrijednosti, ionske jakosti i starenja plastike na adsorpciju ksenobiotika. Naposljetku, dati će se pregled vezan uz zajednički učinak adsorbiranih tvari (ksenobiotika) i mikroplastike na organizme.

Abstract (english)

Enormous quantities of plastic and microplastics are produced worldwide daily so the amount of microplastic in the environment is constantly growing. When found in the environment, it is often confused for food or accidentally swallowed by organisms, and then it is accumulated through the food chain. Finally, it ends up being ingested by people through seafood. Additional problem present pollutants, such as pharmaceuticals and pesticides, that can be adsorbed on tiny microplastic particles and then transfered through the entire ecosystem. When the microplastic with adsorbed substances ends up in an organism, the substances can be desorbed there and further cause harm to the organism. Numerous studies show that the combined effect of microplastics and xenobiotics can present a great risk for the entire systems. In this work, a literary review of previous researches related to adsorption of xenobiotics on microplastic will be given, as well as influence of different parametres; such as size and type of microplastic, temperature, pH-value, ionic strength and aging of plastic; on the adsorption of xenobiotics. Lastly, a review of combined effect of adsorbed supstances (xenobiotics) and microplastics on organisms will be given.
