Abstract

Trimetoprim je farmaceutski aktivna tvar koja se najčešće koristi za liječenje infekcija mokraćnog sustava, upala srednjega uha i dijareje. On je bakteriostatik koji se veže na bakterijski enzim te inhibira metabolizam folne kiseline. Raspoloživ je kao samostalan lijek ili u kombinacijama s drugim tvarima, a kombinacija trimetoprim-sulfametoksazol je oblik koji se najčešće koristi. Iako je jedan od najčešće korištenih antibiotika njegov utjecaj na okoliš nije dobro istražen, stoga se u ovom radu ispitivala sorpcija trimetoprima na 5 realnih uzoraka tla i 5 realnih uzoraka sedimenata s područja Republike Hrvatske. Dobiveni rezultati prikazani su linearnom, Freundlichovom i Dubinin-Radushkevichevom sorpcijskom izotermom. Vrijednosti koeficijenta sorpcije, Kd za uzorke tla su od 18,10 mLg^-1 do 153,08 mLg^-1, a za uzorke sedimenata od 35,19 mLg^-1 do 93,20 mLg^-1. U radu je ispitana i prikazana kinetika, ionska jakost te utjecaj vrijednosti pH na sorpciju otopine trimetoprima. Rezultati pokazuju da porastom ionske jakosti koeficijent sorpcije trimetoprima se smanjuje, a raste s porastom pH-vrijednosti.

Abstract (english)

Trimethoprim is a pharmaceutical active substance commonly used to treat urinary tract infections, middle ear inflammation, and diarrhea. It is bacteriostatic that binds to a bacterial enzyme and inhibits folic acid metabolism. It is available as a stand-alone drug or in combination with other substances, and the trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole combination is the most commonly used form. Although one of the most commonly used antibiotics, its environmental impact has not been well investigated. In order to find out its effect on the environment, we have examined its sorption on 5 real soil samples and 5 real sediment samples from the territory of the Republic of Croatia. The obtained results are presented by linear, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich sorption isotherms. The values of sorption coefficient, Kd for soil samples are from 18.10 mLg^-1 to 153.08 mLg^-1, and for sediment samples from 35.19 mLg^-1 to 93.20 mLg^-1. The kinetics, the influence of ionic strength and the influence of pH value on sorption of trimethoprim were also examined and presented in the paper. The results show that with increasing ionic strength, the sorption coefficient of trimethoprim decreases and increases with increasing of pH value.
