Abstract

Prirodni plin ostaje najbrže rastući izvor energije u većini regija svijeta, pa tako i u Europi, već više od dva desetljeća, zbog niskih emisija stakleničkih plinova, kao i visoke učinkovitosti u proizvodnji energije. LNG je prirodni plin ohlađen na temperaturu od -162 stupnja celzijusa i time pretvoren u kapljevinu koja zauzima znatno manji volumen od plina, što čini LNG pogodnim za transport na velike udaljenosti. Lanac opskrbe LNG-om je već dobro razrađen sustav, koji je iznimno siguran. Danas se putem LNG infrastrukture uvodi konkurencija na tržište koje je prethodno ovisilo o jednom dobavnom pravcu, plinovodu. LNG terminali u EU čine novu mrežu uvoza prirodnog plina preko koje se poboljšala sigurnost opskrbe energijom mnogih europskih zemalja potrošača. Novootvoreni LNG terminal na otoku Krku strateški je važan projekt Europske unije i Republike Hrvatske koji u kombinaciji s LNG terminalima u Litvi i Poljskoj čini novu točku na koridoru za prirodni plin sjever-jug, te na taj način jača diversifikaciju ponude i konkurenciju na tržištu plina u Srednjoj i Istočnoj Europi.

Abstract (english)

Natural gas remains the fastest growing source of energy in most regions of the world, including Europe, for more than two decades, due to low greenhouse gas emissions as well as high efficiency in energy production. LNG is a natural gas cooled to a temperature of -162 degrees Celsius and thus converted into a droplet that occupies a much smaller volume than gas, making LNG suitable for long-distance transportation. The LNG supply chain is already a well-developed system and is extremely safe. Today, through LNG infrastructure, competition is introduced to a market that previously depended on only one supply route, the gas pipeline. LNG terminals in the EU form a new network of imported natural gas, through which the security of energy supply of many European consumer countries has improved. The newly opened LNG terminal on the island of Krk is a strategically important project of the European Union and the Republic of Croatia, which in combination with LNG terminals in Lithuania and Poland forms a new point on the north-south natural gas corridor, thus strengthening the diversification of supply and competition in the gas market in Central and Eastern Europe.
