Abstract

Razvoj naprednih oblika tehnologije doveo je do sve složenijih zahtjeva za njihove električne i mehaničke izvedbene značajke. Metode ispisa se nameću kao potencijalni kandidati za masovnu proizvodnju fleksibilnih elektroničkih komponenti u koje se ubrajaju zasloni, diode, tranzistori, baterije, solarne ćelije i senzori. Među njima se ističe tehnologija inkjet ispisa, zbog jednostavnog principa rada, primjenjivosti nad raznim vrstama podloga te minimalne količine otpada. Ugljikove nanocjevčice se sve češće primjenjuju u inženjerstvu materijala zbog njihovih superiornih karakteristika kao što su izvrsna električna i toplinska vodljivost, mehanička izdržljivost te mogućnost funkcionalizacije koja im omogućuje široku primjenu. Glavni izazov primjene ovog nanomaterijala je dispergiranje u uobičajenim otapalima zbog njihovih jedinstvenih geometrijskih karakteristika, jakih van der Waalsovih sila i nepolarne prirode koje dovode do neželjenog aglomeriranja nanocjevčica. Cilj ovog Diplomskog rada bio je prirediti stabilne i električki vodljive disperzije višestjenčanih ugljikovih nanocjevčica (eng. Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes, MWCNT) u dostupnim polarnim otapalima, koje bi se mogle podvrgnuti inkjet ispisu. Pri tome, korišteni su komercijalno dostupni stabilizatori polivinil butiral (PVB) i SOLSPERSE 20000 sa sinergistom SOLSPERSE 12000. Postignut je velik broj stabilnih disperzija korištenjem navedenih stabilizatora, u rasponu početnih koncentracija 0,5 – 15 mg mL^–1. Nakapavanjem disperzija na različite podloge, utvrđeno je njihovo razlijevanje i određen je površinski otpor u širokom rasponu vrijednosti od 0,425 do 6620 kΩ sq^–1. Uklonjene su veće nakupine aglomeriranih nanocjevčica, a potom su definirana fizikalna svojstva važna za ispis. Utvrđeno je da disperzije nemodificiranih MWCNT u izopropanolu te funkcionalizirane MWCNT–COOH u mješavini vode i etanola početnih koncentracija 3 mg mL^–1 zadovoljavaju preduvjete inkjet ispisa te su takve tinte uspješno ispisane na polimerne podloge.

Abstract (english)

Recent development of advanced forms of technology has led to increasingly complex electrical and mechanical performance requirements. Printing methods are emerging as potential candidates for the mass production of flexible electronic devices, including displays, diodes, transistors, batteries, solar cells, and sensors. Among them, inkjet printing technology stands out due to the operation simplicity, applicability over various substrates, and the minimum amount of waste. The usage of the carbon nanotubes has increased in materials engineering due to their superior characteristics, such as excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, mechanical durability, and functionalization that allows them to be widely used. The main challenge of applying this nanomaterial is dispersion in common solvents due to their unique geometric characteristics, strong van der Waals interactions, and non-polarity leading to unwanted agglomeration of nanotubes. The aim of this study was to prepare stable and electrically conductive dispersions of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT) in available polar solvents, which could be subjected to inkjet printing. While performing the study, commercially available stabilizers polyvinyl butyral (PVB) and SOLSPERSE 20000 with the synergist SOLSPERSE 12000 were used. Many stable dispersions were achieved by using the mentioned stabilizers, in the range of initial concentrations of 0.5 – 15 mg mL^–1. By drop casting the dispersions on different substrates their spreading was determined. The sheet resistance was also determined in a wide range of values from 0.425 to 6620 kΩ sq^–1. Larger clusters of agglomerated nanotubes were removed, and then the physical properties necessary for printing were defined. Dispersions of unmodified MWCNTs in isopropanol and functionalized MWCNT–COOH in a mixture of water and ethanol at initial concentrations of 3 mg mL^–1 were found to meet the prerequisites for the inkjet printing and were successfully printed onto polymer foils.
