Abstract

Plastika je izdržljiv, čvrst materijal visoke kakvoće i niske cijene proizvodnje. Sveprisutnost mikroplastike u vodenom okolišu posljedica je masovne proizvodnje plastike. Kada plastični predmet izgubi svoju funkciju, postaje otpad i vrlo često u konačnici završi u vodi gdje može plutati na površini, lebdjeti ili se slegnuti na dno. Kvantitativne metode su metode koje prikupljaju i analiziraju podatke s ciljem dobivanja brojčanog opisa predmeta istraživanja. Karakterizacija vrste plastike (veličina, oblik, vrsta polimera) otežana je ukoliko se koristi samo jedna analitička metoda. Stoga se često kombiniraju više od dvije tehnike. Proučavanjem mikroplastike u biotskom i abiotskom okolišu dobiva se status i razina zagađenja te izloženost organizama zagađenju. Negativna osobina plastike jest sposobnost adsorpcije toksičnih tvari na površini – vodeni organizmi gutaju plastiku iz vode čime ona (a time i potencijalno toksične supstance) ulazi u prehrambeni lanac. U ovom radu bit će dan pregled najčešćih vrsta mikroplastike te kvantitativnih metoda njihove karakterizacije u vodenim ekosustavima.

Abstract (english)

Plastic is a durable, solid material of high quality and low production cost. The ubiquity of microplastics in the aqueous medium is due to the mass production of plastics. When plastics becomes a waste, it often ends in the aquatic environment where it can float or settle to the bottom. Quantitative methods are methods that collect and analyze data in order to obtain a numerical description of the analyzed subject. Characterization of the type of plastic (size, shape, type of polymer) is difficult if only one analytical method is used. Therefore, more than two techniques are usually combined. The level of environment pollution and of the exposure of organisms can be obtained by studying microplastics in biotic and abiotic environment. The negative property of plastics is the ability to adsorb toxic substances on the surface – aquatic organisms ingest microplastics and thus plastics enter the food chain. This paper will provide an overview of the most common types of microplastics and quantitative methods used for their characterization in aquatic ecosystems.
