Abstract

Cerijev(IV) oksid, CeO2 koristi se kao katalizator raznih reakcija oksidacije i redukcije u brojnim industrijskim granama. U novije vrijeme, intenzivno se istražuje za primjenu u automobilima sa dizelskim motorima u svrhu razgradnje štetnih plinova te katalitičke oksidacije čađe. Visoka katalitička učinkovitost CeO2 rezultat je visoke mobilnosti kisika i kapacitetu skladištenja kisika unutar rešetke te mogućnosti stvaranja vakancija kisika. Dopiranjem cerijava(IV) oksida manganom dolazi do ulaska manganovih atoma u kristalnu rešetku CeO2 i poboljšanja njegovih katalitičkih svojstava. Hidrotermalnom sintezom su pripremljeni uzorci nanokristala čistog CeO2 i CeO2 dopiranog sa 10, 20 i 30 % mangana. Uzorci su termički obrađeni te analizirani raznim metodama kako bi se ispitala morfologija te utjecaj mangana na termičku stabilnost cerijeva(IV) oksida. Osim toga ispitan je utjecaj čistog i dopiranog CeO2 na proces katalitičke oksidacije čađe. Dobiveni rezultati upućuju na povećanje termičke stabilnosti i katalitičke aktivnosti cerija(IV) oksida, kada je u njegovoj kristalnoj strukturi prisutan mangan.

Abstract (english)

Ceria, CeO2 is used as a catalyst for different oxidation and reduction reactions throughout the industries. In recent times, it is extensively studied for the catalytic soot oxidation and degradation of harmful gasses in vehicles with diesel engines. High catalytic activity of CeO2 can be attributed to high oxygen mobility and oxygen storage capacity, together with its ability to form oxygen vacancies. When doping ceria with manganese, manganese atoms enter the crystal lattice of CeO2 and improve its catalytic properties. Nanocrystals of pure and ceria doped with 10, 20 and 30 % of manganese were prepared via hydrothermal synthesis. The samples were annealed and analysed by various methods to study morphology and the impact of manganese on thermal stability of ceria. Also, the influence of pure and doped ceria as catalyst for soot oxidation was studied. Obtained results indicate that doping of ceria increased thermal stability and catalytic activity.
